i’m a feminist and….

BeFunky-collage-39.jpg

Instead of the saying, “I’m not a feminist, but”, I wanted to do a post on something more positive. Every day, people convince themselves that being a feminist is a bad thing because of the negative connotation it comes it. It’s taboo. people convince themselves that they don’t consider themselves to have that label. They actually are a feminist because the end of that phrase would be, I’m not a feminist, but I believe in the social, political, and economic equality between the genders. Today I’m talking about how feminists have their own identity and how you can be a feminist and still have character. Share what your version of this phrase is in the comments, “I’m a feminist and…”

what I noticed at my first high school football game

BeFunky-collage-38.jpg

Last weekend, I went to my first – under the lights – high school – football game. While I did have a lot of fun, cheering with my friends, it brought up a lot of topics that no one is talking about. It makes a perfect conversational blog post though. I am going to be discussing some fun topics like our theme but also some of the not some positive parts of this popularized culture. At the end of this post, I left some links to other articles that explored this topic more.

the progressive state of school

school_

After one week of high school, I’ve already noticed how far the school systems have come. To some, schools are just places to get a mandatory education. With the new progressiveness of schools, it has become more. I thought of how far it has come. From technology usage to the social progress of institutions itself. In the news we see the awful things happening in schools, and now I can finally see proof that local schools are paying attention. They are actively trying to do something. Let me know if your school is progressive in the comments!

my september bullet journal

A new month, new bullet journal spread. I got a bigger bullet journal, after finishing my last one at the end of summer. This has more room, which is perfect for the school year and my long to-do lists. The general layout stayed the same, but the theme this month was just a bunch of cloud doodles. I kept it minimalistic and clean. If you have a bullet journal, feel free to ask questions or leave a link in the comments!

is dress code the problem

dresscode_1

With the school year starting, it’s the perfect time to discuss one of our favorite topics, dress code. It’s usually the first complaint you hear about school. After a summer of wearing whatever I wanted, going back to a uniform with dress code reminded me of all the things wrong with it. There are subtle hints of sexism and body shaming. In this blog post, I’m discussing if school dress codes are the problem and what it says about our society. More importantly, I wanted to write about the impact it has on kids/students.

why i’m a feminist

BeFunky-collage-16.jpg

I’ve written a lot of posts about feminism but I’ve never really touched on why I’m a feminist. There are different reasons for everyone, that I enjoy hearing, so I thought I would write my story. This is going to be a short post, but I would also like to hear your stories too, so feel free to leave a comment! Click here to read some more feminism posts.

what’s going on with fast fashion pt 3

fastfashion_

The last post of the short series, part three! You might have already read the first 2, but here is my little spiel and description: We all say we want to help the environment, but that means more than just buying a trendy reusable straw. One of the biggest contributing factors some of the worlds most prominent problems has to do with fashion. As much as it pains me to say, the fashion world is flawed. Fast fashion, worker rights, non-inclusivity, racial stigma, and so much more. While I will definitely expand on those topics in future posts, today I’m talking about fast fashion. In this 3 post series, I’m going to explore what it is, why it’s important, what you can do, and how you can do it. Get ready for part 3, where I’m going to discuss how you can change your lifestyle and what you can do to help! If you haven’t read part 1 or 2, it will make more sense so CLICK HERE and HERE!

my august bullet journal!

BeFunky-collage-9

There’s nothing like a good old bullet journal spread post to get you ready for a new month. The theme is a simple version of a book theme and has the same color palette throughout the entire spread. I kept things pretty simple, other than a few of the doodles. It’s also one of the shorter spreads, in terms of time, that I’ve done.  Click Here to see all of my other bullet journal spreads!

stop saying sorry

stop say sorry 2019.jpg

Yes, that’s me when I was 5. The point is, as females, we are raised from a young age, by society,  in a world where we automatically feel guilty for everything. As women, we are more inclined to say sorry for things that we aren’t even at fault for. That all the bad things can somehow to be tied back to our actions. When we say sorry, we give up our power. We relinquish it to the person at fault, who will now feel entitled to do as they want. In this post, I’m going to explore why females say sorry and how you should own yourself. I’ve read so many articles an essays about this topic, which is what initially got me interested. At the bottom of the post, there are links to websites and articles I enjoyed and recommend!

a feminist-activist booklist

As I’ve mentioned, many obnoxious times, I decided to read a lot this summer. I figured that during the school year I wouldn’t be able to read the books I really wanted to. Taking advantage of this time, I’m reading books that I really want to. These are books, that have given me different perspectives on things, given me new role models, and have helped shape my views as a feminist. I’ll leave links to the books, but I also recommend checking out your local used books stores. A few of these books I found at used books stores, for cheap and still good quality.  I also really like book recommendations, so feel free to leave them down in the comments.

why writing about what you care about is important

BeFunky-collage-8.jpg

You may have already noticed how this blog is changing. While it may have seemed abrupt, it’s actually something I’ve been thinking about for a while. I wasn’t excited to write and now I am. I found what matters to me, not that what I used to write about didn’t matter to me, I’ve just refocused on something else. The break I took and lack of motivation made me realize how important writing about what matters to you is.

the making of a vision board

RO_-7

What else is there to do on a summer morning except to make a vision board. I like having order in my life, having a plan, a schedule. I obviously had to be even more planned and organized out, which led me to make a vision board. My sister and I cut things out of fashion magazines that “spoke to us”. What spoke to me were headlines about the women joining Congress. What spoke to my sister were ads for chocolate bars. That doesn’t matter, but we had fun collaging and were able to get through half a season of friends.

I’m constantly trying to uplift my friends, the people around me, and myself. Attempting to boost confidence and promote body positivity. Whether it’s complimenting a friend’s outfit or owning my own body by wearing a crop top. This post is all about body positivity, owning your body, uplifting others, some motivational quotes, and so much more.

my may bullet journal spread, pinterest themed!

may bullet journal.jpg

Hello Everyone! I’m so excited for this spread because it was by far my favorite bullet journal spread I’ve ever done. I used Pinterest to find inspiration for these pages after developing a color scheme. The core colors are a few shades of blue, a bright red, a light pink, and grey. I definitely did not keep it minimalistic. After determining that I wanted to make this month extra special, I decided to start early. This took a lot more time than my usual spreads, although if you do want to see those posts, keep reading to the end for all of those links. Enjoy!

2019 spring break look book!

spring look book

Hello Everyone! Since the weather was kind of off, not all of these pictures were from the day I wore them. Some of the outfits were featured in other blog posts, so I reused those pictures for this post. Not all of these outfits are very “springy” because the weather in Virginia is all over the place. I also jumped around during the week to my favorite looks. Let me know in the comments, your favorite look from your spring break. Enjoy!

i made an artsy sweatshirt

Hello Everyone! During spring break, I finished all of my homework and studying early. This led me to sew something. I wanted to do something really creative and artistic and overall new. While I was working on everything, I took pictures along the way. It’s a matching set of a sweatshirt and shorts. The shorts have a little twist to them, which was my way of making it extra “artsy”.

5 Ways to Style a T-Shirt

Shirt_6

Hello Everyone! I’m so excited about this post! I recently realized how the t-shirts I have. My collection is mainly made up of tourist/gift shop shirts and cute t-shirts. There are also even more categories past those two subcategories, such as cropped, oversized, etc. Instead of styling 1 shirt 5 ways, I wanted to style 5 different t-shirts for a few different styles. Altogether, I was really in the mood for a fashion-styling post. That’s also where the roots of this blog are from, fashion + stuff *woah, i am such a fashionista*. Enjoy!
