My Favorite Books + Podcasts!

podcasts and books cover

Hello Everyone! Most people who know me, know how much I like podcasts. As of recently, I’ve found books, outside of school, that I enjoy. I learned how to make the time to read them. I’m constantly giving out recommendations, so I thought that this blog post could be helpful. I linked where you could find several podcasts and books. There are so many more podcasts that I listen to, and a lot more to be said about it, so a blog post will be coming out by the end of the month. In that post, there will be more recommendations. If you have any recommendations, let me know in the comments. Enjoy!

The Feminine Mystique. I am currently reading this book and I love it so much. Quick recap: Friedan uses history and small anecdotes from a multitude of women to discuss the feminine mystique. That is more or less the confinement of women in the position as housewives, mothers, etc. stripping them of their identity. I definitely recommend this book if you are interested in feminism, stereotypes, history and other thought-provoking issues.

podcasts and books

Bechdel Cast. This is my favorite podcast.  I usually listen to this in the car, to and from, school, or whenever I get a chance. It’s really entertaining. The women who host it are really funny.  I recommend this to anyone who likes movies, but it does have explicit content. Quick recap: Two ladies and a special guest talk about a movie. They see if it passes the Bechdel Test and sees how Hollywood portrayed women.

SYSK. Stuff you should know. This podcast talks about the most random things, but somehow, it’s so interesting. Quick recap: Josh and Clark pick a random topic and discuss it. That’s it. Some of my favorite episodes are about fainting goats and the cow involved in the Chicago fires. They take the most mundane history topics and make them something worth listening too.

Keep me in Mind.

Romeo and Juliet, Midsummer Night’s Dream. I just wanted to include one classic. I read these at school a few years ago and thought they deserved mention.

Little Women. I read this book last year, and I immediately fell in love with it. The first time I ever heard of this book was during an episode of FRIENDS, and then it was on my “to be read” list. Quick recap: It’s the story of a family of women in the post-civil war era.  Although it’s so much more than that. It goes into depth, describing their life and the different personalities of the women. This is definitely a book/ classic that everyone needs to read at least once.

The Daily Show: Ear’s Edition. This podcast is just the audio version of highlights and interviews from The Daily Show with Trevor Noah. I think he’s funny, and I never get the time to watch his show when it’s on tv, so this is a great alternative.  Really really quick Recap: Trevor Noah talks about what he talks about on the Daily Show.

I hope you enjoyed this post! There is a post coming soon talking all about podcasts because I love podcasts and there is definitely a lot more to be said. In that post, I’m going to include more recommendations.   I obviously love podcasts and books, so if you have any recommendations, let me know in the comments. Thanks for reading!
